What to do following a sharps injury |

1.

Encourage bleeding by squeezing site of
puncture wound. Do not suck.
|
|
2. |
Wash the wound with soap and water. Do
not scrub. |
|
3. |
Wash out splashes in eyes using tap
water or an eye wash bottle, and nose or mouth with plenty of tap water. Do
not swallow the water. |
|
4. |
Cover wound with waterproof dressing.
|
|
5. |
Report the incident to a supervisor,
line manager or health and safety adviser and to your Occupational Health
Service. |
|
6. |
If the injury is contaminated and
occurs out of office
hours report to A&E. |
|
8. |
Phone us the next working
day for further advice. |
